Trust, Water, and Faith

Hey there, it’s Chubs again. Grab a cozy spot, and let me share something incredible that happened during last week’s big freeze. It’s a tale of icy mornings, Emmy’s prayers, and a miracle involving—you guessed it—water.

Picture this: the wind was howling so fiercely it sounded like it was trying to uproot the barn. The doors creaked and groaned as if auditioning for a ghost story, and the ground was so frozen it could have doubled as concrete. Emmy shuffled into the barn bundled up in more layers than I’ve ever seen, looking like a walking haystack. She brought me breakfast, gave me a hug, and patted my neck before heading out to tackle her morning chores.

But something was off. Emmy looked exhausted, the kind of tired that no amount of hot chocolate can fix. I soon figured out why. The spigots—first the one outside, then the one inside the barn—had frozen solid. That meant she and her mom were hauling heavy buckets of water all the way from the house to keep us horses hydrated. And believe me, those buckets aren’t light.

Emmy was pushing through, but I could see the frustration creeping in. Her usually bright eyes had a shadow of worry. She took a pause, standing in the barn aisle, and closed her eyes for a moment. She wasn’t giving up—she was leaning into something bigger, taking a moment to ask for help.

Then, the unexpected happened. On her way back from the house with the first bucket, Emmy glanced at the outdoor spigot—the one that had been frozen all day. There, in the middle of subfreezing temperatures, it was dripping. Water, clear and steady. She stopped, frozen for a second (not literally, of course), then reached out to turn the handle. Water gushed out like a summer fountain.

The joy on her face was something else. She worked quickly, filling buckets, troughs, and every container she could find. Relief softened her tired shoulders, and as she leaned against my stall door later, she looked up at the rafters with gratitude.

Now, I’m no expert in miracles—I’m just a horse, after all—but even I know that wasn’t normal. Emmy’s simple moment of trust, her quiet prayer, was answered in the most unexpected way.

So, here’s the lesson: when things seem impossible—when every spigot is frozen, and the load feels too heavy—trust that there’s a bigger plan in motion. God has a way of showing up when you least expect it, even in the frostiest moments.

Until next time, stay warm and keep the faith, friends.

Hoof-bumps and blessings,
